Preparing the next generation of aviators.
Obtaining a Flight Instructor Rating (FIR) is a rewarding and exciting challenge for any pilot. It’s an incredibly fulfilling experience to see a student that you trained fly solo for the first time. A flight instructor role can be an exciting career in itself, and it is also a great way for you to earn money and build both knowledge and Pilot in Command (PIC) hours for the next step in your aviation career.
This Flight Instructor Rating (FIR) course will offer you both the FIR and the Grade 3 Training Endorsement. The syllabus includes 36 hours of flight training as well as comprehensive ground briefing training so that you will be able to effectively instruct in both practical and theoretical settings. While working as a Flight Instructor, you have the opportunity to undertake a range of additional training endorsements, allowing you to teach students in more varied flight activities. This even further expands the ways in which you can build hours.
Upon enrolment, you will receive a Training Starter Kit which contains all relevant course materials, access to shared online resources, and detailed information on your course process. Your orientation will include an introduction to the airport, airspace, aircraft fleet, LTF processes and policies, and our facilities.
The theory sessions are designed to teach you the principles and methods of instruction including instructional techniques, effective communication skills and teaching methods. After that, you will need to pass the CASA Flight Instructor Rating theory exam.
You will be taught how to provide a long brief, pre-flight briefings, plan lessons and conduct a productive lesson period. You will also learn how to create your own PowerPoint briefs.
You will conduct 36 hours of flight instructor training as part of the course. You need to demonstrate that you are able to analyse student responses and determine corrective measures when necessary. You will also need to satisfactorily complete air manoeuvres as well as to conduct pre-flight briefings and post-flight debriefings.
After ongoing instruction and practice, you will be ready to be put forward for your Flight Instructor Rating flight test. If you meet the appropriate standard, your Flight Instructor Rating will be granted on completion of the flight test.
