Convert your licences. And your ratings.
Pilots who have trained overseas and obtained their Private Pilot Licence or Commercial Pilot Licence from ICAO-approved countries are able to have their licence (and ratings) converted to CASA. ICAO Pilot Licence Conversion course is designed to convert any ICAO professional licence and ratings to CASA professional licence. Converting your ICAO Licence to a CASA Licence requires both theory and practical flight training, and there may be additional requirements depending on your experience and licence status.
Converting your ICAO Pilot Licence will allow you to continue your flight training and work in Australia as a Pilot. In addition to learning more about CASA regulations and operations, during this course, we will familiarise you with the aircraft type, local procedures and flying in CASA-regulated airspace.
To complete your licence conversion, the ICAO PPL or CPL you hold must be current and valid. There is a range of other prerequisites including total aeronautical experience, flight hours as a pilot, solo flight hours, solo cross-country flight hours and instrument hours. Please refer to the course guide. Your orientation will include an introduction to the airport, airspace, aircraft fleet, LTF processes and policies, and our facilities.
Administrative requirements include applying for an Aviation Reference Number (ARN), submitting a Flight Crew Licence application, obtaining an Australian medical certificate, passing an English Language Proficiency (ELP) assessment if required, and obtaining an aviation security clearance (ASIC or AVID).
The CPL conversion exam consists of 2 parts, both attempted separately. The parts are the CPL Overseas conversion exam for the relevant aircraft category (either COSA or COSH), and the CPL Human Factors (CHUF) exam.
The PPL package includes 10 hours of dual flight training, and the CPL package includes 12 hours of dual flight training plus 3 hours of solo flying.
At the successful completion of all course components, PPL conversion students will complete a flight review. CPL conversion students will complete the CPL flight test.

Our Graduate
Kenny Won“I was impressed with LTF’s professionalism and also the variety and quality of their aircraft fleet when I visited from overseas. I decided that wanted to have my FAA PPL converted so that I could continue my CPL training with LTF in Australia. I can now train at one of the busiest training airports in the Southern hemisphere, which gives me the confidence to fly anywhere.”
