Fly After Dark
A Night Visual Flight Rules (NVFR) Rating allows you to operate an aircraft after dark in visible conditions and makes a very valuable addition to your flying license. The course follows the CASA syllabus, it will introduce you to various approach and landing types, as well as emergency situations. You will learn to conduct basic instrument flights at night, with the use of ground-based navigation aids.
Greater Flexibility
Flying at night is a unique experience for pilots, especially when conducted over a stunning cityscape like Melbourne. In addition to this though, the Night Visual Flight Rules (NVFR) Rating allows you greater flexibility in your flight planning, particularly for longer flights that may need to end after the sun has gone down. To be eligible for this course you must hold a Private Pilot License (PPL).

1. Enrolment & Orientation
Upon enrolment, you will receive a Training Starter Kit which contains all relevant course materials, access to shared online resources, and detailed information on your course process. Your orientation will include an introduction to the airport, airspace, aircraft fleet, LTF processes and policies, and our facilities.

2. Night VFR Ground School
The theory component will introduce you to the fundamental concepts of Night Visual Flight Rules. Your instructor will brief you thoroughly on all of the practical aspects that will be learnt during night circuit training in the aircraft.

3. Night VFR Flight Training
You will be introduced to the various types of approaches and landings as well as some emergency situations. You will also be trained on the use of navigation aids (NDB and VOR), and use of runway lighting equipment such as PAL (Pilot Activated Lighting).

4. Night Solo Flying
You will complete solo night circuits before progressing to navigation training. Navigation training involves planning and executing a number of navigational flights at night, covering different aspects of Night Visual Flight Rules.

5. Night VFR (NVFR) Flight Test
The Night VFR flight test is approximately 3 hours in duration and involves take-off and landing, navigation and utilisation of navigation aids, as well as night time emergency procedures. On successful completion, you will receive your Night Visual Flight Rules Rating.
